Give Me 3 cc's of Credible Health Reporting, STAT

The Gold Sponsor for ScienceWriters2015—and the generous host of our Sunday evening bash on October 11—is STAT, a new online publication being launched later this year by Boston Globe Media with a focus on "the frontiers of health and medicine."

The publication is staffing up rapidly, and recently the STAT team shared three job openings, for a newsletter writer, a biotech reporter, and a news editor. Since the positions will be of obvious interest to the ScienceWriters2015 crowd, we're re-posting them below.

NEWSLETTER WRITER

STAT, a new national health and science publication from Boston Globe Media, is looking for a stylish and engaging writer to anchor our morning newsletter. We're looking for someone who reads voraciously, reports aggressively and can write with authority, credibility and verve on everything from medical research to the deals and players in biotech and pharma to health-care policy and the patient experience. You'll have help from our burgeoning team of beat reporters, but you'll be front-and-center as the voice of our publication, sharing your insights and setting the agenda for conversation among readers from coast to coast.

Hours will be flexible to ensure the newsletter, delivered weekday mornings by email, is fresh and current. The lead writer will also have time to work on enterprise stories and develop multimedia projects. The ideal candidate will have experience covering science, medicine or health for a daily publication.

STAT, a Boston Globe Media publication, launches later this year. We're a startup, so flexibility, team spirit, and a willingness to innovate are essential. Also essential: Fidelity to bedrock journalistic values and a commitment to excellence.

Please send resume, cover letter and up to eight clips, including short pieces, to michael.clinton@globe.com

BIOTECH REPORTER

STAT, a new Boston Globe Media digital publication covering the frontiers of health and medicine, is looking for an aggressive, fearless reporter to cover the biotech industry in Boston and nationally. The reporter will be based in Boston, the epicenter of the life sciences in the United States, and will be counted on to own the beat, regularly digging up tough-minded and compelling stories about companies, their products, influential players and personalities, and behind-the-scenes dramas.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science, medical or business journalism, and experience covering the biotechnology sector or pharmaceutical industry is desirable.

We’re looking for an energetic and enterprising beat reporter with a strong track record of breaking news and generating good ideas and turning them into compelling stories.  Candidates must be productive and versatile, skilled at both quick-turnaround daily news and deeply reported enterprise. Experience working with multimedia teams to come up with creative ways to package reporting is a plus.

The new publication, which launches later this year, will cover life sciences in Boston and beyond for a national audience. This is a start-up publication, so flexibility, team spirit, and a willingness to innovate are essential. Also essential: Fidelity to bedrock journalistic values and a commitment to excellence.

Please send resume, cover letter and up to eight clips, including short pieces, to michael.clinton@globe.com

NEWS EDITOR

Boston Globe Media is looking for dynamic editors for STAT, a new publication dedicated to covering health, science and medicine. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in science or health journalism as well as several years’ experience editing at a daily news organization.

We’re looking for energetic editors who are adept at generating ideas, directing coverage and working with both reporters and multi-media producers to develop provocative and insightful stories – and to tell them in creative ways. Editors must be comfortable working quickly on breaking news. This is a start-up publication, so flexibility, team spirit and a willingness to innovate are essential. Also essential: Fidelity to bedrock journalistic values and a commitment to excellence.

The new publication will cover life sciences in Boston and beyond for a national audience. The position is based in Boston.

Please send resume, cover letter and up to eight clips, including short pieces, to michael.clinton@globe.com
